A panel repair is only half the job. Once the bodywork itself is fixed, the paint has to match, not just close, but close enough that nobody can tell where the repair starts and the original finish ends. That’s a different skill from the bodywork itself, and it’s where a respray can either finish a repair properly or leave it looking obviously patched.

At The Spectrum VR Group, colour matching is built into our paint and refinishing service, and every repair passes through this stage before a van leaves our workshops. We also offer full resprays as a standalone service, whether you’re changing a vehicle’s colour, refreshing its finish, or matching a brand new van to your existing fleet livery, no repair required.

Why colour matching matters after a repair

Paint fades and shifts colour slightly over the life of a vehicle, particularly on panels that see more sun. A respray that doesn’t account for this can leave a repaired panel looking slightly off, even if the bodywork underneath is flawless. Getting the match right means working from the vehicle’s actual current colour, not just the original factory specification.

For fleet vehicles, there’s an added layer: the repaired panel must match not just the rest of that van, but the rest of the fleet, so liveries and branding stay consistent across every vehicle on the road.

How we approach van paint and refinishing

Every respray is carried out in our purpose built spray booths, which provide the controlled environment needed for a factory grade finish. Whether the job is a single repaired panel, a full colour change, or a wider area of the van repair service, the same precision colour-matching process applies, so the finish is consistent across the whole vehicle.

This matters as much for a single independent van as it does for a large fleet. A privately owned van only needs to match itself, but the standard of the match still determines whether the repair is invisible or noticeable. The same applies whether we’re colour matching after a repair or carrying out a full respray with no damage involved at all.

Branded fleet liveries and colour matching

For fleet managers, a repaired van has to fit back into the fleet without standing out. We colour match repaired sections to the rest of a fleet’s livery, so a van that’s been in for panel repair looks the same as the rest of the fleet once it’s back on the road.

We’ve also carried out full resprays on brand new vans with no repair involved, simply to bring them in line with an existing fleet’s livery, so a new addition to the fleet looks consistent with the rest of it from day one.

Why choose Spectrum VR for van paint and refinishing

The Spectrum VR Group is BS10125 accredited, and our paint and refinishing work is carried out in purpose built spray booths at our facilities in West Thurrock, Essex and Sidcup, Kent. We work exclusively in commercial and specialist vehicle repair, so every respray is done by technicians who work on commercial vehicles day in, day out, not as a sideline to routine servicing.

Can you match the paint colour exactly after a repair?

Yes. Precision colour matching is part of our paint and refinishing service, so a repaired panel is matched to the rest of the vehicle rather than left as a visibly different shade.

Do you offer a full respray for a van, separate from a repair?

Yes. We offer full van resprays as a standalone service, whether or not a repair is involved. This includes complete colour changes, for example changing a van from silver to yellow, and matching brand new vehicles to an existing fleet’s livery. Whatever the starting point, our team can match existing manufacturer colours or apply a completely new finish to suit your requirements.

Can you match a fleet’s branded livery after a repair?

Yes. We colour match repaired sections to the rest of a fleet’s livery, so repaired vans stay consistent with the rest of the fleet.

How long does a van respray take?

It depends on the size of the area being resprayed and whether it’s part of a wider repair. We’ll give a realistic timeframe once we’ve assessed the vehicle.
